University Square is built around a multi-level parking garage connecting to anchor stores, small retail shops and restaurants. Access from the garage opens directly onto store entrances, eliminating the typical internal mall concourse.

Project signage plays an important role in clearly directing the public into the stores. To ease wayfinding, the design team developed a system that features color-coded signs that are named for the anchor store found on each level of the garage, such as the Target, Kaufmann's or Tops level. The consistent application of the signage program allows the public to travel more easily within the project.
