The Metropolitan: Washington, D. C.

Rose Associates

The Metropolitan was designed to capitalize on the renaissance taking place in Washington's eclectic West End. As a contextual architectural statement, the building is respectful of its neighbors, exemplary of the new Washington spirit.

The +/-340,000 sf project includes luxurious urban condominiums, a multi-level underground garage, +/-113,000 sf ground level commercial space, and rooftop amenities, including a health facility.

It is positioned to maximize natural light intake. An elevated first floor brings daylight to the partially below grade commercial level through area wells. The exterior is comprised of pre-cast concrete panels with the familiar Washington red brick on the upper levels.

Surrounding buildings, a densely populated area, and a small parcel of land made construction difficult, particularly when blasting was required to build the multi-level underground garage to accommodate 188 cars.
