The goal of the studies for the Schwebel Room was to develop a scheme that would maximize the potential use of the space as well as provide an intimate dining area. The program called to raise the overall image and aesthetic of the room, creating a positive dining and social experience, while reflecting Kent State's image and stature within the realm of higher education.
The study was to create private and semi-private dining and meeting spaces that allow for the flexible use of the space. The physical environment needed to allow for varied dining and social activities. The entrance with the associated reception, waiting, and coat amenities were efficiently and attractively organized. The capacity of the dining room was increased while creating views to the new campus courtyard. The final design expanded the dining space to about 6,000 sf. The new space increased daylight exposure within the room.
The exterior build-out of the Schwebel Room was to make a focal point for the entrance of the building on the existing facade. It emphasized the location of the Schwebel Room when viewed from the outside.
