ka worked with Industrial Realty Group on the preliminary concepts for Goodyear's new World Headquarters. As part of the project, ka explored scenarios of spatial organization to develop alternatives to the traditional office. Some of the features embodied in the work plan are indicated on the following design drawing. These features included flexible low partitions, movable work surface oriented along the window wall, interior hard wall elements which can be opened and closed and connected via sliding doors, integration of flat screen and individual HVAC controls at each workstation, wireless IT to allow mobility of the physical workstation components, private enclaves with curved geometry, dimmable colored lighting and lounge-like furniture to provide either a contemplative environment or one where concentrative individual work must be performed free of distractions, subdividable rooms, visual displays of what the organizations culture and goals are all about, and height adjustable work surfaces to fit the individual hoteling, time sharing and integration of living plant material to soften the environment.
The project consisted of about 475,000 sf, plus a 75,000 sf executive parking garage and a 33,000 sf data center.
