Antelope Valley Mall was designed to reflect the distinctive Spanish Mission-style architecture so prevalent in the southwest. The 750,000 sf mall echoes its surroundings in color, texture, form and style. Rhythmic, repetitive details occur in split face block columns and arches. Dramatic design features include a stucco clock tower rising behind an expansive, paved court and portal, and interiors that provide an oasis of color, lush landscaping, and fountains. Daylight filters through a line of fritted glass clerestory and is softened by artificial illumination.
The mall encompasses 82 acres of its 127-acre site. The arid desert site is surrounded by scrub vegetation and mountains that provide their own aesthetic character. The flat site's location required seismic construction. Traffic patterns onto and off of the site, and within the project, were coordinated with the city.
